Randomness is what makes Conjuring Fun. Random number generation controls which cards you get, so Conjuring can create very wacky situations. Conjuring random cards tends to be less useful than Drawing cards from your deck. Cards in your deck are handpicked by you, rather than Conjuring stuff randomly from massive pools of cards.
I wanted to keep the fun randomness of Conjuring, but make it a bit more consistently useful.
My solution was to steal Hearthstone’s “Discover” Mechanic and allow the player to choose which trick they want most out of 3 options. This gives the Player more control and agency in the still very random Conjuring processes. It is slightly more powerful, and it gives the player more interesting decisions to make.
